Yelburga or Yelaburga is situated in Koppal district of Karnataka in India. Yelburga is a panchayat town and is famous for its history. Yelburga has rich cultural history. It was ruled by Yerambarga dynasty in late 11th century. Yelburga town dated back to 10th century and even to earlier times.

The major tourist spot in Yelburga is its Mahadev temple in Itagi. This temple was built in 11th century (1112 A.D.). the temple is made from soapstones, which are found in abundance in this region. The first few temples built from this material were Amrtesvara temple of Annigeri of Dharwad district, which was built in 1050 A.D.

The Mahadev Temple of Itagi is said to be more articulated and enhanced structure in comparison to the prototype structure of Amrtesvara temple of Annigeri. Mahadeva built the Mahadev Temple of Yelburga. He was a general of the western Chalukya King Tribhuvanamalla Vikramaditya VI. This temple was eulogized as one of the best temples in the country, because of its outstanding architectural style and copious enhancing sculptural details. It has a shrine in east facing temple and entrance followed with a closed hall. The Mahadev Temple is one of the best to study ancient architecture styles, and add up to the historic wealth of Yelburga.
